The high cost of medical education, coupled with the lower salaries of primary care physicians has caused a large decrease in the number of health care providers in rural areas. The UNMC Alumni Association Scholarship has had a huge influence on me and my ability to pursue the education I always wanted. The scholarship not only relieved financial stress during med school, it helped direct my career path for the future. My wife and I were overjoyed when we learned I received the scholarship, and I subsequently chose rural family medicine as my specialty.
