The Campaign for Nebraska: Unlimited Possibilities
Talk about investing in students
Not many college students can say they have actual financial investment experience, but students at UNK can certainly brag about this experience.
The William L. Bauhard Student Managed Investment Program Fund was established with a leadership gift of $90,000 from Bill Bauhard of Omaha, a retired financial services and telecommunications executive.
Students in the investment course will work closely with their professors in planning and managing real investments.
The net income they earn will go back into a student scholarship fund that will provide tuition aid for undergraduate students in the college.

The true meaning of being a star
Many nights when she was little, Monica Mondragon would look up at the stars and say a prayer.
"I'd asked God why I didn't have money to give to my mom so she could stop working so much and be with me instead."
Her mom, who worked two factory jobs back then, would make tortillas that were warm and delicious. They were a "life-saver," Monica says, on those nights when she and her siblings otherwise would have gone to bed hungry.
"My mom — whenever she didn't have enough food to feed us, she would always encourage us to eat the little we had. I can remember being eight or nine, and I would say, 'Mom, here. Have some.‘
"She would look at me and say, 'No, you eat. When you're older you need to grow strong and change the world and go to school.‘"
"So I said, 'OK, well, I will be a superhero.‘

This School of Rock turns teachers into stars
Take them on a road trip.
Get them dirty.
Show them a stadium of mountains and rivers and open sky and pose questions about the geologic world around them. But don't make it easy. Hand them a shovel.
Make them dig deep to uncover the answers for themselves.
This is how you turn science teachers into rock stars.
